Forward Deployed Security Engineer
At Bastion, we're redefining the way startups approach security and compliance. Unlike traditional compliance automation platforms, we set ourselves apart with a tailored approach, focusing on customizing security controls to meet the unique needs of each customer and providing hands-on implementation. Acting as an extension of our customers' teams, we help them implement security controls faster and more effectively. We're looking for a Forward Deployed Security Engineer who combines technical expertise with exceptional client engagement skills. You'll work closely with customers to enhance their security posture and achieve compliance, from assessing their current frameworks to providing tailored recommendations and guiding them through implementation.
What you'll do
- Conduct initial consultations with new clients to assess their current security posture, infrastructure stack, compliance requirements, and objectives
- Provide expert advice on improving clients' security posture, tailoring security programs to their unique needs aligned with industry frameworks
- Translate security programs into actionable implementations by developing policies, procedures, configurations, and software integrations
- Liaise with auditors to align security programs with their expectations and streamline the certification process
- Act as a trusted advisor, communicating effectively with clients, internal teams, and auditors to ensure smooth program implementation
- Stay up-to-date on security frameworks and technologies including NIST, SOC 2, ISO 27001, GDPR, AWS, Azure, GCP, and Terraform
- Provide insights to Bastion's engineering team to help shape the development of tools, integrations, and products that meet client needs
What we're looking for
- 2+ years in an information security engineering or equivalent role
- Strong knowledge of security frameworks and best practices
- Ability to evaluate client environments and recommend appropriate safeguards to meet compliance goals
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to explain security concepts clearly to clients and stakeholders
- A proactive, self-driven attitude with the ability to work independently and adapt to a rapidly growing startup environment
- Comfort learning new technologies quickly and applying them effectively in client environments
Nice to have
- Experience with cloud security (AWS, GCP, Azure)
- Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Pulumi)
- Previous consulting or customer-facing security experience
- Relevant security certifications (CISSP, CISM, Security+)
